Visit inside the ramparts of the Château de Saumur in a TF1 report.
As part of a news report broadcast during the 1 p.m. news on March 17, TF1 revisited the challenges of heritage preservation in the face of climate-related hazards. The Château de Saumur serves as a case study, illustrating these issues through the collapse of its northern rampart in 2001, weakened by heavy rainfall and the erosion of tuffeau stone.
The report also offers a rare glimpse inside the reconstructed rampart, an area normally closed to the public. This reinforced concrete structure, hidden behind a tuffeau stone façade, reflects the scale of the restoration work carried out between 2004 and 2007—one of the most significant undertakings ever on a Historical Monument in France.
Invisible to visitors from the outside, this reconstruction restored the monument’s original appearance while ensuring its long-term preservation.
